Fooditude’s on-going partnership with Highshore School, a SEN school in Camberwell, is something that our whole team are proud to be part of: it’s the crown and jewel of our commitments to social impact and community involvement.

We have worked with Highshore since 2013, and have since run a range of work experience placement sessions and held numerous hands-on cooking demos for their younger secondary students to give them a taste of work in the hospitality industry. With an added pinch of fun!

We believe that collaborations are crucial to enhancing the visibility of our hospitality sector and contribute to a talent pipeline in the face of a persistent labour shortage. Community outreach projects, like this one, allows us to promote hospitality as a rewarding career option.

So far, we’ve hired 15 students for term or year-long work experience placements and have hired 2 of their students for paid jobs.

We run numerous tours and cooking demos throughout the year with Highshore’s students. From mains to dessert, our hands-on cooking demos are loved by the students that participate.

After seeing the success of our pizza making session in February 2023, we couldn’t wait to get Highshore back in for another session – this time for baking…

Leave no scone unturned!

What says English baking better than a freshly baked scone? Sweet, savoury & everything in between – we welcomed students from Highshore for a tour of our CPK in South Bermondsey followed by our first baking demo of the year.

Our Director of Food, Matt, took the lead at instructing students on how to make their own sweet and savoury scones. It’s safe to say everyone’s tabletop stations got covered in flour very quickly. By the way: the picture above was before the students got to work.

Before we knew it, the baking trays were filling up with the students’ own cut out scones, ready for the oven to bake!

That’s a wrap!

We love hosting these sessions and always enjoy the interaction we get – the same goes for the staff and students of Highshore. We are certain that there are many more sessions to follow today’s event, so watch this space!
